How does IPL work?

IPL System

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including hair removal, photorejuvenation (e.g. the treatment of skin pigmentation, sun damage, and thread veins) as well as to alleviate dermatologic diseases such as acne.

IPL uses a high-powered, hand-held, computer-controlled flashgun to deliver an intense, visible, broad-spectrum pulse of light, generally in the visible spectral range of 400 to 1200 nm.

Various cutoff filters are commonly used to selectively filter out lower wavelengths, especially potentially damaging ultra violet light. The resulting light has a spectral range that targets specific structures and chromophores (e.g. melanin in hair, or oxyhemoglobin in blood vessels) that are heated to destruction and reabsorbed by the body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IPL hair removal permanent?
IPL provides long-term hair reduction. While it significantly reduces hair growth, some maintenance sessions might be required over time to maintain perfectly smooth skin.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most users describe the sensation as a light snap of a rubber band. Our machine features a triple cooling system (Wind+Water+Semiconductor) to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure.
How many sessions are typically needed?
For hair removal, usually 6-8 sessions are recommended depending on the area and hair type. For skin rejuvenation or pigmentation, results are often visible after 3-5 sessions.
What skin types can be treated?
The 5 different sapphire filters allow for customization based on skin concerns and types, making it versatile for hair removal and skin therapy on various complexions.
Is there any downtime after treatment?
There is minimal to no downtime. Some patients may experience slight redness similar to a mild sunburn, which typically disappears within a few hours.
What should I do before an IPL session?
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks. Ensure the treatment area is shaved and free of lotions or perfumes.
